Sadaqah Jariyah

Allah invites us to this very specific investment through Sadaqah Jariyah. One of the most fantastic concepts in Islam is Sadaqah Jariyah. Sadaqah Jariyah is merely a one-time financial investment with repeating advantages and benefits. It is a one-off charity but with repeating and continuous reward. It is this type of Sadaqah which the Prophet (PBUH) stated will continuously benefit an individual even after their death. The Prophet (PBUH) said:

When a person dies, all their deeds end except 3:
a continuing charity, valuable knowledge and a child who prays for them,

(Hadith, Muslim).

Muslims are eager to offer charity which will continue to have the advantage to individuals after their death and continue to earn them a reward.

Any charity which continues to have positive results on an individual or community in the long-lasting can be thought about a Sadaqah Jariyah. Some examples consist of:

  • Building medical facilities, homes, and schools.
  • Setting up long lasting water
  • Cultivating crops which supplies food for several years to come.
  • Helping households begin a company which continues generating revenue for future generations.
  • Building a location to praise Allah.

In truth, we are encouraged in the Sunnah and from the practices of the Sahabah to consider Sadaqah Jariyah.

Sad ibn Abi Waqqas sought permission to donate his estate in charity, he was offered an allowance to do so, up to one-third of his estate. When a Muslim pass away, two-thirds are fixed for the needs of his inheritors.

These two-thirds are left behind for the worldly needs of others. Nevertheless, one-third is for us which we can take with us in the next life to help us for eternity.

This can take place through offering one third into Sadaqah Jariyah.
The example of those who spend their wealth in the way of Allah is like a seed [of grain] which grows seven spikes; in each spike is a hundred grains. And Allah multiplies [His reward] for whom He wills. And Allah is all-Encompassing and Knowing.
[Qur’an 2:261]

This verse artistically narrates the multiplicity of reward for giving Sadaqah. Providing a single pound in Sadaqah draws numerous rewards. In truth, the impact of Sadaqah has favourable ramifications on the recipient as that pound travels through the system for the advantage of others. Also, this verse tells us that whatever we offer, has the possible to increase seven hundred times. That indicates the return on investment is 700%!

We should constantly try to find more opportunities and moments to get more benefit and the pleasure of Allah. Whatever we do now, will most surely benefit us in the Hereafter, and be a method to bless us in this world.
