This is the basic term used for offering charity in Islam. Sadaqah also spelt Sadka, Sadaqa, Sadqa and Sadkah. All acts of praise through financial expenditure are, by more comprehensive meaning, categorized as Sadaqah. Due to there being lots of types, they have been divided into the following 2 categories both of which have separate judgments: Sadaqah Wajibah & Sadaqah Nafilah.
This is charity which is binding in nature. This includes Sadaqah al-Fitr, and so on. This kind of Sadaqah resembles Zakat because it must be invested in the very same classifications as specified by the Quran, other than that it is not a condition for the recipient to be Muslim.

This is charity which is not binding in nature however is optional. This type consists of alms provided for the removal of problems, humanitarian (to provide of mercy to the under-privileged), the basic offering of any Halal item to any one etc. This type does not need to be invested in the defined classifications to be satisfying nor does it have to be spent on Muslims, although if invested on poor Muslims it would be more gratifying. This can also be bequeathed in one’s will (in which case it would be only up to a third of the departed individual’s entire estate).
