وَتَعَاوَنُوا۟ عَلَى ٱلْبِرِّ وَٱلتَّقْوَى
And assist one another in goodness and righteousness [Surah Ma’idah]
The chairman of KORT, fellow staff members as well as our courageous Muskorteers have been on the ground with the Pakistan army delivering aid first hand to victims of the tragic floods within Pakistan. The main areas that were struck were Gilgit Baltistan, KPK Swabi, Dera Ghazi Khan towards southern part of Pakistan and various places within Balochistan. Our prayers are with those struck by grief and those struck by loss of wealth, property and lives due to the disastrous calamity, the scale of which was unprecedented.
Moments prior to launching our appeal, KORT acted swiftly by heading straight for Gilgit – Baltistan. Upon arrival, the team was met by muddy floods that was at the time about knee height, though much deeper further out. It was extremely difficult to gain access. It was a sorrowful sight to witness with buildings partially destroyed and many civilians injured.
After conveying the people and bodies to safety, food packs were distributed whilst the Pakistan army did what they could to clear the remains. The Chief Minister of Gilgit-Baltistan, Khalid Khurshid, had offered gratitude to KORT’s amazing relief work and made a firm promise to re-open shelters and resources for those affected.
The following day, another team was dispatched to KPK in Swabi and was met by similar unforgettable sights. It could be seen from above via a helicopter that a village along with the trees had been almost entirely submerged in the devastating flood. Those affected had been transferred to a safe location. Team KORT arrived offering food packs and reassurance to all those affected. The food packs contained enough essentials to last an entire month and will be a big help due to lack of access and destruction from the floods.
Moving onto day 3 of relief work, Team KORT arrived in Pishin, Quetta, Balochistan, and this was by far one of the toughest for them yet. News had reached us that an earthquake had also struct this very same area The team had to act in haste to ensure Balochistan’s most affected areas have all been offered aid and assistance. With the support of the Frontier Corps, people were guided, and some were carried safely across the waist height flood water. Once the people had been brought over to a safe and open area, KORT distributed Food Packs to all and a public prayer was held for safety and God consciousness, as is the practice of KORT in all our relief work.
“…And whoever fears Allah, he shall make for them a way out. And he shall provide for them from where they did not expect…” [Surah Talaq]
The next destination was in Qilla Saifullah and many youths were amongst the affected here, however, their ability to keep high hopes and a smile on their faces was incredible. KORT was present delivering food packs to the locals who had barely anything around them except the empty barren land.
