Fidya

fidya

Fidya also spelled Fidyah, is a concept in Islamic law that refers to compensation or expiation given for missed obligations. Typically, it's associated with fasting during the month of Ramadan. If someone cannot fast due to illness, old age, or other valid reasons, they can provide Fidya as a substitute.

Here's a quick rundown:
  • Who gives Fidya? Those who are unable to fast due to chronic illness, old age, or other unavoidable circumstances.
  • What is given? Fidya usually involves feeding a poor person for each missed fast, or the equivalent in monetary terms which is £5 per fast with our charity
  • Why give Fidya? It's a way to compensate for the missed religious obligation and to ensure that those in need receive support.
  • What do we do with your donation? At Kashmir Orphan Relief Trust, we provide hot meals to those in need during the holy month of Ramadan, ensuring that families do not endure hardship during this blessed period. Our commitment goes beyond just providing food—we strive to offer comfort and support to the most vulnerable in our community, bringing hope and warmth to their lives. With each meal we serve, we aim to uplift spirits and foster a sense of unity and compassion among our beneficiaries.

Fidya is a compassionate practice that ensures everyone can participate in the spiritual benefits of Ramadan, regardless of their physical abilities.
