It is an essential part of Islam to care for orphans. Because Muslim belief emphasizes the importance of caring for orphans. In the Qur’an, orphans are mentioned 22 times; while neglecting and abusing them is a severe sin, nurturing and sponsoring them is a precious action. Hazrat Muhammad’s (SAW) heart was particularly drawn to supporting orphans.

In his statement, the Prophet (SAW) said:

“One who cares for an orphan and I will be together in Paradise like this, and he (SAW) showed this through holding his two fingers together.

Orphans in Pakistan

Due to the lack of proper parental care, orphans are the most vulnerable people on earth. Because these individuals are among the most vulnerable in society, they require a high level of support to rebuild their lives. Those who help these orphans can significantly reduce their plight and gain superior rewards in the hereafter. There are more than 4.6 million orphans in Pakistan, most of whom are under 17 years old. Orphan Children are primarily poor and lack access to education, and they may be exploited as child workers or harmed by terrorists. It is urgently necessary to address the social ills affecting this substantial portion of the population.

Orphans in Kashmir

An article by sociologist Bashir Ahmad Dabla, entitled A Sociological Study of Widows and Orphans in Kashmir, from 2012 estimates that Kashmir has 214,000 orphans. But the government of the state estimates there are more than 100,000 orphans. According to the Jammu Kashmir Coalition of Civil Society, 70,000 people have been killed in Kashmir during the past 26 years of armed conflict. Many children have become orphaned due to this conflict. All these orphans are facing a tough time in their lives to survive. They have not any roof in their heads and are even deprived of the necessities of life. All these orphans in Kashmir and Pakistan need good support and sponsorship that will help them rebuild their lives and put them on the right track to survive in a better way.
